There are plenty of tools offering an easy way to convert PDF to other formats. However, “easy” does not always guarantee that the output file will be of high quality. Our solution combines ease of use and excellent performance. Here is how you can check it.

How to process PDF easily and efficiently with PDF To Text Linux

  1. Add, upload, or export a document to the platform.
  2. Note, you can make changes to the content of the document regardless of the initial upload format.
  3. Make edits to the text: change, replace, or delete it.
  4. Annotate the content: highlight text, add sticky notes, arrows, and blackout specific areas.
  5. Add graphics, shapes or add drawings by using a drawing tool.
  6. Use PDF To Text Linux to watermark and password-protect your document before choosing PDF as an output format.
  7. If you convert to PDF, you can make it more entertaining by adding fillable fields.
  8. Download, send or share your document in a flash.

File processing is only a small fraction of the entire arsenal of features our solution includes. If you’re working with PDF files daily and need an extensive set of features to facilitate your document workflow, the PDF To Text Linux will be your best fit.

FAQ

Is their any PDF viewer in Linux which allows highlighting text in any PDF?
I use Master PDF Editor for that, it not only functions as a PDF reader but also is a full fledged PDF editor. Of course it's a paid closed-source software and since it's also a full fledged PDF editor, it's indeed a total overkill if you want to just highlight PDFs. But in my experience it’s the best software available for Linux to interact with PDFs.Of course there's yet another alternative called Qoppa PDF Studio Pro which has same features but I prefer Master PDF Editor because it is a native Linux app while Qoppa PDF Studio Pro is written in JAVA and requires JAVA runtime to work. And truth be told right now you may not need a PDF reader with full fledged PDF editing capabilities but you may need one in future, so why settle for a mere PDF reader, go directly for something which offers you both PDF reading and editing capabilities.
How do you highlight text in PDF in Ubuntu or Linux OS?
There is Foxit[1] reader available for linux. You can use that pdf reader to do almost all of the thing. You can download and install it for free of cost (property licence, free of cost).Free PDF Reader & PDF Viewer Download | Foxit SoftwareDownload the software, unzip it and double click on the .run file and then follow the instruction in the screen. If you like free software (FOSS) then you can choose Okular [2], though it does not support all the feature, but highlighting and commenting can be done.Footnotes[1] Free PDF Reader & PDF Viewer Download | Foxit Software[2] more than a reader
How can I convert the Unicode Standard to text?
That depends what you mean by “normal text”. For most software these days, Unicode is normal text.If you want to convert to a different Unicode encoding (for example, UTF-8 to UTF-16) most “programmer’s” text editors can adjust the encoding while editing a file (I’m taking about apps like TextMate, Sublime Text, Visual Studio Code, Atom, and so on).If you’re talking about ASCII, most of the above mentioned text editors can do that too.But beware: you’re potentially going to loose data converting Unicode to anything that’s not Unicode, because any other encoding won’t cover the full range of Unicode characters. If you’re talking about how to do the conversion in code—that depends on what language and environment you’re working in, and what encoding you want to convert to (“normal” is quite vague).Generally speaking, these days, it’s best to just stick to Unicode for everything. Problems like garbled text and mojibake the arise from mismatched encodings should be relegated to the code page hell scrap heap of the 1990s.
How can I convert a PDF to XML?
Disclaimer: I’m the founder of Docparser.com, a software solution specialised in transforming semi-structured documents (invoices, purchase orders, reports, …) into structured data such as XML, CSV, JSON.As already mentioned by other, there is unfortunately no easy way to convert PDF to XML files. This is simply because the PDF format doesn’t include any structuring tags like for example HTML does. A PDF file includes in most cases just a flat description of the visual representation of its content. Which means that there are no indicators which would allow you to easily identify hierarchical data and key data points. Some PDF files actually do have XML data stored in their metadata though. For example, electronic PDF invoices might have all relevant key data embedded inside the document metadata. But at the time of writing, PDFs containing XML data are rather the exception. But there are still ways to convert PDF to XML!You have basically two different problems here to solve:First, you need to get hold of all text and images inside your PDF fileSecond, you probably want to convert the extracted text into individual data fields (Title, Headline, Text, Date, Reference Number, …) which you can use to build your XML data structurePull Text From PDF FilesFirst we need to check if your PDF files are actually containing text data or if they consist of scanned images. The way we do it at Docparser is to check if we can extract text data and pipe the files through a OCR library if no text was returned. In either case I would recommend to rely on Linux command line utilities. While you might also find a Python library, the Linux commands usually work much better in my experience. In case we need to handle scanned images, we use an OCR system to convert them into “searchable” PDF files. Such PDF files contain the scanned images as well as hidden text returned by the OCR.Once you are sure that the PDF file contains text data, you can use the Linux command line tool PdfToText with the option ‘- layout’. You should then have a plain text representation of your PDF file which has (nearly) the same layout.Convert Extracted Text Into Structured DataThis one is difficult to answer without knowing your specific use-case. Converting unstructured or semi-structured text into a XML structure can be easy, challenging or plain impossible. It really depends on the kind of data your are dealing with and how granular the output needs to be.At Docparser we developed a set of tools that can help you transform PDF documents such as invoices, purchase orders, delivery orders etc. into fine grained structured data objects without any coding. There are many gems to consider. The following article from RubyGarage is a comprehensive overview of many different gems, 57 Best Ruby Gems We Use at RubyGarage. If you’re looking to implement analytics, I’d also recommend checking out Segment and adding our analytics-ruby gem. Segment is a flexible solution for tracking user activity in any system. Segment provides a single API for you to send track calls that describe user activity. Our library will collect user activity that you send to Segment, and then transforms and forwards those events to any connected destination (we have hundreds of tools to choose from). To get a bit more insight into the implementation, I’d recommend looking at the following tutorial Thoughtbot created on implementing Segment into your Rails application.Hope this helps!

Where can I find a QuickBooks alternative as a Linux user?
Free Accounting Software | GnuCash is the one system I know is out there in the wild but I have never seen an professional account tell me she or he would use it. So I would talk to your accountant first.Assuming your accountant is ok with it, I would dry run import/export with your bank. And even then I would be worried.I have a series of awk scripts I uses at home and even with those, it seems like the 3 credit card companies change something in the format of their statements at least once or twice a year. Last year, I actually decoded and used a PDF to text converter and then took the data from there for one of them because it was easier than their new export format.BTW: one other possibility is to run QuickBooks in a VM. I know someone that did that for a long time (until he sold his firm). That made his accountant happy and he never had to worry about import/export from the banks.
