How can we convert .PDF into .docx?
Word format is not so great for preserving the exact layout. That's precisely what PDF was invented for. You can try a couple of things. If your document happens to be in compatibility mode, use the File>Convert command and save as the latest .docx. This may shift things around a bit, but once you fix those, the document's layout may stabilise somewhat. Use a different PDF export (save as) command. If saving via Word's internal converter, try Change Pdf To Editable if you have it, or vice versa. Same goes to “for print” vs “interactive” options. Try printing to a PDF driver rather than exporting. That will lose the hyperlinks and bookmarks though. Insert explicit page or section breaks. In your particular example that would do the trick. Good luck!

Thanks Thanks to Jason A. for pointing me to the PDF to PDF conversion tool. Thanks to Jason A. for pointing out that some PDF documents do not work well when they save as PDF. Some are just plain not useful. Thanks to Daniel E. Sierpinski for noting that the original Mac PDF to PDF converter doesn't work correctly (I think). That one works very well with the Mac document viewer at least. Sources I found several references to using PDF 2.2.1 on the Web, some for Macintosh version, some for x86/x86 compatible machines. It looks like I need to download, or build, more than one version to properly test for compatibility: As noted by Matthew T. I've used my machine on and off for a handful of years now and have a fairly good track record with operating system upgrades. I tried to give it away several times and every time lost it, either returning.
