How do I improve document quality when converting to PDF from Word?

I’m not a tech, but worked a great deal with different programs at my previous jobs. I found that there’s a big difference in the readability of the various fonts you should have access to, and last I knew the serif ones, such as Times or Times New Roman, were easier to make out at a glance. You could also be certain that the font is in color black, but not bolded, and/or try making the font a bit larger, like one or two points. If you have access to Photoshop or another editing program, try a filter that would smooth the edges of the type. These hints all assume (yes, an ass thing to do) that your Word document is still editable. Probably someone more advanced than I am can help further.
